In this talk, Hervé from the French NGO Open Factor discussed their work in investigating and countering disinformation. Open Factor was created in 2019 with the goal of federating the Francophone open source intelligence (OZINT) scene. They assist newsrooms and activists in OZINT investigations, train journalists, and promote young journalists in France. The NGO has worked on investigations such as Greenblood and published reports on companies like Infos. Hervé highlighted the importance of using open source software in their work and discussed the tools they used, such as HIFE, JFE, and Retina. He also emphasized the need for collaboration and the challenges posed by emerging technologies like chat GPT. In the Q&A session, Hervé addressed questions about leaks, the scope of disinformation networks, and strategies for tackling disinformation in authoritarian states.
