The speaker is a principal engineer in the Amazon Coretto team, and in their talk, they focused on a minimalistic virtual machine monitor called Firecracker. Firecracker is KVM backed, supports limited devices and is completely written in Rust. It supports a microvia metadata service and sandboxing. The speaker demonstrated the use of Firecracker with Java and its combination with Crack, a project in the OpenJDK that offers checkpoint and restore in user space. They also mentioned the possibility of integrating Firecracker with Crack. Finally, the speaker demonstrated an animation of user fold demon, which offers the possibility to follow page by page which addresses get loaded at the restore.
